About Cockapoos.
The Cockapoo is the result of crossing a Cocker Spaniel with a Poodle. In general, Toy and Miniature Poodles are used to breed Cockapoos. Cockapoos have been known in the United States since about 1950, with many Cockapoo puppies there being the result of generational breeding between two adult Cockapoos. The F1 Cockapoo is a first cross Cocker Spaniel x Poodle and draws its characteristics from both parent breeds. From the Cocker Spaniel, the Cockapoo inherits is outgoing, loving and biddable nature with an eagerness to please. The Cocker Spaniel also brings a sturdy heavier boned body and that endearing spaniel expression. From the Poodle comes high intelligence, loving nature and low shedding qualities.
When moving forward with Cockapoo generations the "F" stands for the generation of the dog. A first generation Cockapoo (F1) is the result of breeding a Cocker Spaniel to a Poodle. A second generation Cockapoo (F2) is the result of breeding an F1 Cockapoo to another generation of Cockapoo e.g. F1 x F1 = F2. If an F3 Cockapoo is bred to an F1 Cockapoo, then their offspring are still F2 as you can only move up one generation from the lowest generation. To achieve an F3 Cockapoo, both parents must be F2 or higher. A F?(b) means a puppy resulting from a Cockapoo of the generation numbered before the 'b' bred back to a pure bred Poodle or Cocker Spaniel.
The Cockapoo is a mixed breed and therefore even puppies in the same litter can differ slightly. They can favour either of the original parent breeds or be an even mix between the two. Some puppies may be slightly curlier while others may have a looser shaggier coat. Some may have a heavier build while others may be slighter like the Poodle. Cockapoos can be found in a variety of colours and markings including black, chocolate, red, apricot, cream, gold, parti colour, phantom, sable and many more.
At Jaruda Cockapoos we breed F1b and F2 Cockapoo puppies. Our F1b puppies are all F1 English Show Cockapoos bred back to a Miniature Poodle. We do this to produce a curly or wavy, low shedding, low dander coat and to retain the well defined 'Teddy Bear' Cockapoo look. We are new to producing F2 Cockapoos and look forward to furthering the generations with our own breeding stock from lines we can trust; our own. The temperaments of our puppies have been proven to be wonderful.
